Stor-It-All beats the heat and Sportsmen's to win title

The Stor-It-All Bulldogs captured the Litchfield Women's Softball League
championship with two victories over Sportsmen's of Litchfield on Sunday.
The Bulldogs gather for a team photo after winning the title.
Sportsmen's Janet Taylor takes a swing, Sportsmen's Laura Cappello
is tagged out at the plate by Tammy Abraham.
Laura Cappello gains a measure of revenge by tagging out Abraham
at second base, Sportsmen's Michael Lyn Cappello sprints to first base.
Stor-It-All shortstop Donna McLean throws over a ducking Sheila Reidy
of Sportsmen's, and Stor-It-All's Stacey Dionne accepts the championship
trophy from parks and recreation director Brent Hawkins.
The Stor-It-All Bulldogs, one loss away from being eliminated from the Litchfield Women's Softball League tournament, swept tourney favorite Sportsmen's of Litchfield in the final two games to win the championship Sunday at Community Field.
On a long, hot and dusty day, the Bulldogs earned the title by defeating Sportsmen's 6-4 in the first game and 8-2 in the winner-take-all second game.
Sportsmen's had defeated Stor-It-All in the second round of the tournament and was unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament before the 6-4 loss to the Bulldogs.
Led by Stacey Dionne and Donna McLean, the Bulldogs were clearly the better team in the last two games. They out-slugged Sportsmen's and capitalized on numerous fielding and throwing errors by Sportsmen's infielders.
Stor-It-All defeated the Village Restaurant and Sportsmen's downed Litchfield Ambulance in the opening games of the tournament. Sportsmen's then defeated Stor-It-All to earn a berth in the championship round. The Village Restaurant eliminated Litchfield Ambulance and Stor-It-All advanced by eliminating the Village.
Dionne and McLean were joined on the Bulldogs by Skyler Rood, Tammy Abraham, Jolene Thibeault, Kimmie Edmonds, Rosa Alvarado, Marilyn Hernandez, Alisa Rosenberg, Tracy Currier, Colleen Rood, Lisa Beyer, Chris Rocello and Barbara Heacox.
Parks and recreation director Brent Hawkins was on hand to present the championship trophy to Stor-It-All and the runner up trophy to Sportsmen's. Sportsmen's also received a trophy for winning the regular season title.
